My husband, Jim, and I spent a wonderful four days in Lancaster County where we re-charged our batteries and minds. We stayed at a lovely Bed and Breakfast called "Leaman's Country Lodging." It is located in Bird-In-Hand on a country road. We watched an Amish man work on his acreage across the street early one morning.

It's a little un-nerving to drive through the lovely countryside sometimes when trucks are on the road, alongside of buggies. Fortunately, everyone is aware of the risks and people drive slowly, with great care.

One of the most interesting experiences we had was to go to a produce auction on Tuesday morning. We arrived towards the end, but it was incredible to see the gorgeous produce on its way around the country - purchased by food chains and restaurants - as well as small stands. Amish families brought their boxed produce early in the morning where it was graded and prepared for bids. Since the Amish do not like to be photographed, I did not get some shots which would have been fantastic. Three dear little boys, (brothers about 2, 4, and 6) walked holding hands next to their father, who patted them on their heads as he went over to watch the bidding for his produce.

A young Amish woman sat at an outdoor picnic table with her seven young children. They were so well-behaved.

The Amish we spoke to were very pleasant and seemed to enjoy speaking with Englishers. We purchased homemade birdhouses for our garden from a young Amish teenage boy, who went out of his way to help us. His mother nodded approval as he explained his merchandise.

We went to Sight and Sound while there and saw "Moses." It was spectacular! The best show yet and worth the price. Highly recommend it! We purchased two of the last seats available. (Never one to plan ahead.) We were in the last row, but every seat is good! I love the way they present Biblical accounts and then provide an opportunity at the end for people to go forward. No one's name appears on the program and no accolades at the end, reserving the glory to Him.

Since we're always concerned with eating too much while away and paying the consequences with additional un-needed weight or tummy upsets, we avoided the wonderful buffets so prevalent in the area and stuck with smaller restaurants with fewer temptations.

One small restaurant we found was in Lititz and we returned the next night to try two other fantastic meals. It's called "Tomato Pie Cafe." Good service, good food, and good prices.

For breakfast, we went one day to the Oregon Restaurant, which was good, and one morning we went to Katy's Diner, (near Sight and Sound) where we were served Amish food by an Amish and Mennonite staff. The French toast was amazing! I think it was made from special raisin-cinnamon bread, which resembled their wonderful sticky buns! Whoa! I haven't had the courage to weigh myself yet!!!

We came home to be greeted by a fawn. They pass through here nearly every day.
May God bless you and your loved ones abundantly!
