Some New Events in our lives!
This past year has had its normal ups and downs, as well as some unusual ones. On the down side, our daughter broke her hip just before Christmas of 2016. It required hospitalization and then rehab. After she was mobile, she stayed with us until she felt able to return to her apartment. She's a strong believer in God and faithful to her physical therapy, which has brought her back to normal living. We're so thankful.
On January 1, 2017, I ended up in emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction and spent the good part of the week in the hospital. Wonderful care, but some interesting roomies, who may end up in one of my novels someday. Would take too much space to tell all here, but a hint -- I was moved three times in one night due to hysterical roommates. (Scary!)
After recovery, we went back to normal living, though Irma did a job on our small home in Florida. We took a special trip down in October to meet with contractors and check out the damage. It looks pretty normal now, but the insurance did not pay for it all. Ugh. Also had to deal with some minor flooding in the spring, which affected the antique shop. Another reason to reduce our enterprises.
Now, to the highlights of 2017 for the Belfie's.
I celebrated a BIG birthday event this year and most of the family was able to attend. I'm sorry we missed Dan, our grandson, and Josh Prather, our grandson-in-law. But it was a lively time for the rest of us, and I feel very blessed to have so many loved ones.
Our granddaughter, Erika was married to a wonderful young man, Samuel Prather, in Colorado this year. Yup, our two granddaughters, (sisters) married two brothers! The adorable little child checking the peonies, is our first great-granddaughter, born to Krista and Josh Prather two years ago, and she's now waiting the birth of her new sister, due in the spring.
Our granddaughter, Olivia, graduated with honors from high school and is now attending Penn State. Our grandson, Daniel, returned to Virginia from Texas and is taking college courses and working. Tyler, another grandson, has an excellent job with a pipe laying company and is in a relationship with a lovely young woman. Our third, and oldest grandson, is headed for South Africa to head up a new department in computer technology.
This year looks to be exciting! Our son, Bryan and his wonderful wife, Nancy, are planning to return to Florida, where their hearts have always been. It will enable us to spend more time with them during the winter months. Our son Scott, has a new job working with DNA research and is enjoying the challenge. Cara, his lovely wife, watches over their two young daughters, Ashley and Samantha, and transports them to their various activities.
